Description

Machine Drawing is designed as a textbook for undergraduate students of mechanical engineering for a course on machine drawing. While providing a holistic treatment of the subject, the book aims to help students learn the art of drafting precise and accurate drawings of machine parts. It provides a visual appeal to the subject by explaining all the concepts of machine drawing extensively through illustrations and requisite theory.

The book begins with the fundamental topics such as simple geometric constructions, orthographic and isometric projections, and moves on to the drawing of different machine elements, assembly drawing of machine parts, limits, tolerance, and fits, and surface roughness and finish. A chapter on AutoCAD 2009 has been included to familiarize students with computer-aided drafting. In the subsequent chapters, along with hand drawings, drawings using AutoCAD software are also explained.

The book covers a gamut of topics such as fastening arrangements that include welded, riveted, and threaded joints along with a variety of threads and the bolt-nut assembly and their drawing methods. It also discusses shaft and pipe joining arrangements and shaft attachments. Different types of valves and the belt-pulley assembly are covered along with a variety of bearings, gears, and worm wheels. Part and assembly drawings in relation to parts of the internal combustion engine (ICE) and steam power plant are also presented. It further presents detailed drawings of some common machine tools besides some miscellaneous equipment such as crane hook, surface roughness measuring stand, screw jack, knife switch, centrifugal pump, relief valve, belt drive, worm reduction gear box, and bevel gear junction box.
